Minister Ponnam Prabhakar inaugurates community kitchen in Karimnagar

BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar inaugurated a community kitchen in Karimnagar to provide breakfast to 49,000 students in 669 government schools and 11 junior colleges. The Rs 8 crore facility will be implemented by the Harekrishna Movement Charitable Foundation.

Karimnagar: BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said that the government was committed to providing quality education coupled with necessary amenities. He, along with local MLA Gangula Kamalakar, formally inaugurated a centralised community kitchen at the agriculture market yard here on Wednesday.

The modern kitchen, created under the school breakfast scheme, can provide breakfast to 49,000 students studying in 669 government schools and 11 junior colleges across the district. The facility was established at a cost of Rs 8 crore. It is going to be implemented by the Harekrishna Movement Charitable Foundation (HKMCF).

Speaking on the occasion, Prabhakar said that proposals were prepared to provide breakfast to 17.72 lakh students across the State by expanding the school breakfast initiative soon. He informed that 23,106 schools would be covered under the scheme. Community kitchens would be established in 31 districts, spending Rs 240 crore, offering 15,000 jobs directly and 10,000 jobs indirectly.

According to officials, 16,544 students from Husnabad Assembly constituency, 8,645 pupils from Manakondur, 7,481 students from Choppadandi and 16,355 pupils from Karimnagar segments were going to benefit from the scheme.

Collector Chitra Mishra, Additional Collector Ashwini Thanaji Wakade, municipal commissioner Praful Deshai, HKMCF executive officer Kountiya Dasa, Karimnagar market committee chairman Akula Narasanna and others were present.
