Hyderabad: Ministers T Harish Rao and Vemula Prashanth Reddy slammed the BJP for its remarks on not extending invitation to Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan to address the first day of the Telangana State Legislature’s budget session which commences on March 7. They pointed out that it was not the first day of a new session, but only continuation of the previous eighth session which was not prorogued by the Governor. They condemned the statements by the Telangana BJP leaders for making allegations without proper knowledge about legislative procedures.
Speaking to mediapersons at TRS Legislative Party office here on Tuesday, Prashanth Reddy said the Assembly session was being conducted in the most democratic manner. He said the Governor’s Address was not being held due to certain technical reasons and there were many such instances in the past. Considering the fact that Telangana was performing better than other States as well as the nation in terms of economic growth, he stated that the State government was more enthusiastic to explain about its achievements through the Governor’s Address of the budget session.
“But this will be against the legislative procedures as the previous session was not prorogued. The Governor is required to address the first session of the State Legislature in a calendar year, but the Constitution does not mandate that the budget session to start with the Governor’s speech,” the Minister said. He ridiculed that the BJP leaders were speaking about the Constitution and the customs which they never followed. He pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had questioned the formation of Telangana State in the Parliament as per the Constitution. He reminded that the BJP has a history of dislodging the democratically elected governments and taking over the power undemocratically.
Finance Minister Harish Rao derided the BJP leaders for allegations that the Governor was being mistreated by the State government only because she was a woman. He stated that BJP State president Bandi Sanjay had no moral rights to speak about woman after he supported the derogatory remarks of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma against women. He said the BJP was only trying to gain political mileage by making an issue out of nothing and advised them to stop paintining saffron colours forcibly to the Raj Bhavan which had no political affiliations.
The Minister said the State government would clarify to the Governor about the budget session, if needed and the BJP leaders need not try to bulldoze the State government which was impossible. He made it clear that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had complete respect towards the Constitution of India as well as the Governor system and had always maintained great relations with former Governor ESL Narasimhan as well as the current Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan.
