Kothagudem: Police arrested seven Maoist militia members, including a minor, in Kurnapalli forests of Cherla mandal in the district on Monday. ASP Dr Vineeth G said that Cherla police and CRPF personnel spotted the militia members and caught them when they tried to escape. At the directions of Maoist Cherla Area Committee secretary Aruna, they were engaged in fixing naxal posters to trees near roads against ‘Operation Prahar-3’.
The arrested persons M Unga, V Vijay Kumar, M Jogaiah, K Devaiah, K Srinu and Sodi Gangaiah are from Ramachandrapuram and Yerrampadu villages in the mandal. Gangaiah, working as a militia member for the past five years, was involved in 16 cases, the ASP said. He noted that the Maoists were forcing adivasis to stage protests against a police base camp set up in Chennapuram forests of the mandal.
