Khammam: A Hyderabad trader, who had gone missing on January 19, was found dead in an agriculture field by the side of the Khammam-Suryapet highway in the district.

Bollu Ramesh (52) of Vikrampuri, Secunderabad, reportedly went to office on January 18 but did not return home. Both his mobile phones were also switched off. His wife Natti Janani, who called their relatives and friends to know where her husband was, could not get any information and lodged a complaint with the Karkhana police the next day.

The police registered a missing persons case and started investigating. Based on Ramesh’s call data, the police began efforts to trace his location. It was said that for the last couple of days, the police were searching areas alongside the highway as per the call data.

On Friday, they took a suspect, Sajid, one of Ramesh’s acquaintances, into custody. The suspect confessed to the police that he and two others killed Ramesh and hid the body in a chilli field along the highway.

Meanwhile, on the same day, a farmer at Lingaram thanda in Kusumanchi mandal spotted the body of an unidentified man and informed the local police. Based on the confession of the accused and the information given by the farmer, the police found the body in a decomposed state.

Karkhana Inspector of Police V Ramakrishna said Sajid was involved in four murder cases in the past, wherein he dumped the bodies in isolated places along highways in Nalgonda, Suryapet and other places.

Ramesh was a dealer for paan masala in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. He was kidnapped by the assailants at Kachiguda, strangled to death and his body disposed at the thanda. Business dealings were said to be the motive behind his murder.

Further investigation is under way, the Inspector said.
