‘Mission Bhagiratha’ major reason for joining TRS: Errabelli
Pointing out that the water grid programme was first implemented in Siddipet by Chandrashekhar Rao, he said the TRS, after coming to power, subsequently replicated it across the State
Siddipet: Rural Water and Sanitation Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao went candid on Wednesday, admitting that it was Mission Bhagiratha, the flagship programme of the TRS government, that attracted him to the ruling party.
“Even though I was heading the opposition party then, I decided not to criticise Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao after seeing how efficiently Mission Bagiratha was being implemented in the State. I then decided to resign from the TDP and join TRS,” the Minister said, addressing a State level meeting on Mission Bhagiratha implementation at Komatibanda near Gajwel in the district.
Pointing out that the water grid programme was first implemented in Siddipet by Chandrashekhar Rao, he said the TRS, after coming to power, subsequently replicated it across the State. He thanked the engineering staff who worked relentlessly for the successful completion of Mission Bhagiratha. “During my political career spanning four decades, I have seen people toiling hard to fetch a pot of drinking water from far away places,” he said.
Though successive governments in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh had spent lot of money on drinking water supply, they could not resolve the problem permanently, he said, adding that people used to drill borewells spending thousands to meet drinking water needs. “And now, the Chief Minister has implemented a project that ensures supply of filtered surface water to each and every household in the State at their doorstep,” Dayakar Rao said.
Thanking those who played a role in successful completion of the works, the Minister called upon them to continue the work with the same commitment since new houses are being built everyday across the State.
Secretary to Chief Minister Smitha Sabharwal said the Union government has certified that the Telangana government had completed Mission Bhagiratha since they were successfully supplying drinking water to 56 lakh households. “We achieved this feat within a short time because every engineering official from Engineer-in-Chief to Assistant Engineer worked with commitment,” she said. Engineer-in-Chief Krupakar Reddy, CEs, SEs, EEs, DEs and AEs from all the districts have attended the meeting.
Earlier, Collector Siddipet P Venkatrami Reddy accorded a welcome to the Minister and Smitha Sabharwal.
