Khammam: Public representatives distributed gift packs provided by the State government to the poorer sections among Christians marking Christmas eve in different places in erstwhile Khammam on Friday.
In programmes organised at different churches in Kothagudem, Sujatha Nagar, Chunchupalli and Laxmidevipalli mandals in Kothagudem district, MLA Vanama Venkateswar Rao distributed gift packs to local Christians.
He said Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao treats all religions and every community with respect. The TS government was the only one in the country that offers gifts and celebrates festivals of all religions. “It shows the importance given by the government to communal harmony and brotherhood in the society. The public should be wary of forces that are trying to divide the society for political gains,” he noted.
Christmas feasts which were organised in the past, had been cancelled this year because of the pandemic, he said, while wishing all Christians a happy celebration.
Government Whip and Pinapaka MLA Rega Kantha Rao also distributed clothes to Christians at different villages in Aswapuram mandal. Yellandu MLA B Haripriya distributed clothes at Tekulapalli in Kothagudem district.
In Khammam, Palair MLA K Upender Reddy distributed clothes in Khammam (Rural) mandal. Meanwhile, pastor Anand and Grace of Christ church members took out a candle rally in view of Christmas and offered special prayers for speedy recovery of Transport Minister P Ajay Kumar who tested positive for coronavirus.
