Hyderabad: With the Member of Legislative Council (MLC) elections for different constituencies fast approaching, aspirants in the Congress are intensifying their lobbying for tickets with the high command. This includes the ticket for Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Graduates constituency.

Currently, MLC T Jeevan Reddy is representing the constituency in the council. However, many aspirants are intensifying their efforts to impress the State leadership and secure the ticket from the constituency.

It is still unclear whether the party would field Jeevan Reddy from the same constituency. Though, a few senior leaders have supported the candidature of Jeevan Reddy, going by the aspirants lobbying, the party seems to have a different opinion.

Among many, it is learnt that educationalists Narender Reddy, Ramana Reddy, Velichala Rajender and Praveen Reddy are lobbying hard with the high command for a ticket from the constituency through their channels.

It may also be recalled that Jeevan Reddy had openly differed with the State leadership on a few occasions. Following the murder of his close aide Gangareddy in October last, the MLC had even staged a protest on road and vented his ire against the Congress leadership.

Indicating the adverse impact of encouraging defections into the party, the MLC had even said that he was vexed and tired of this humiliation. The efforts of TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud and Whip Adluri Laxman to console the MLC had turned futile. Party sources said this had not gone well with the State leadership.

Considering all these factors, it is to be seen whether the State leadership will consider Jeevan Reddy’s candidature or nominate others from the constituency.

For the other two constituencies, including Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teachers’ and Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Teachers’ segments, there is buzz in the Congress that they might be offered to Left parties as part of alliance. Irrespective of the alliance, sitting MLC A Narsi Reddy is all set to contest from Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teachers’ constituency.

The BJP has already announced its candidates for the three constituencies. Puli Sarottham Reddy has been announced as candidate for the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teachers’ constituency, Malka Komaraiah for Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Teachers’ segment, and C Anji Reddy for Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Graduates’ constituency.
