Hyderabad: Pointing out that ever since the Bharatiya Janata Party assumed power, the public and farmers all were being forced to protest for even basic rights and sit in the scorching sun, TRS MLC K Kavitha has called for an immediate roll back of the hike on fuel and LPG prices.

Leading a protest against the fuel price hike along with Ministers Talasani Srinivas Yadav and Mohammed Mahmood Ali at the Civil Supplies Office, Begumpet on Thursday, Kavitha also came down heavily on the NDA government for its discrimination towards Telangana on paddy procurement.

The Centre, she said, was not procuring paddy from farmers in Telangana even when there was a bumper crop. This should change and the Centre should follow the Punjab module for procurement from Telangana as well, she said.

Participating in a ‘vanta varpu’ programme along with TRS workers, Kavitha found fault with the NDA government for failing to increase reservation for Scheduled Tribes to 12 percent.

“After passing a resolution in the Assembly, we forwarded it to the union government. However, the Minister has gone to the extent of saying that they have not even got the resolution,” she said.

On the fuel price hike, Kavitha said the BJP had promised to increase the GDP after it rose to power. However, the government was now increasing another GDP – gas, diesel and petrol, she said, also pointing out that the union government had not offered any support at all for the welfare schemes initiated by the State government.

Calling on BJP State president Bandi Sanjay Kumar to take up the issue of fuel prices with the Centre, Kavitha said the price of LPG should be slashed from Rs.1,000 to Rs.400.

The MLC also accused the BJP of lending a helping hand only to big businessmen, who got waivers of hundreds of crores of rupees on their loans.
