Hyderabad: Putting an end to all speculations, former MP and Nizamabad MLC K Kavitha filed her nomination to the Nizamabad Local Authorities Constituency seeking a re-election for second term. Though she was rumoured to go to Rajya Sabha, Kavitha chose to contest as an MLC representing Nizamabad constituency.

Along with Kavitha, six other TRS candidates filed their nominations for the MLC seats to the Local Authorities Constituencies on Tuesday which was the last day for submitting the nominations. Five TRS candidates submitted their nominations on Monday.

The former MP received a rousing reception upon her arrival at Tekriyal in Kamareddy district from the TRS cadre. They burst crackers and welcomed her with ‘harathi’ amidst drum beats. Later, the TRS cadre held celebrations en route at Dichpally as well as entrance of Nizamabad town. Legislative Affairs Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy and other TRS elected representatives accompanied her for the nominations. With around 777 of 937 voters belonging to TRS, the party leadership is confident that her election is a foregone conclusion.

TRS candidates who filed their nominations on Tuesday include MC Koti Reddy from Nalgonda, Dande Vittal from Adilabad, L Ramana and T Bhanuprasad Rao from Karimnagar, and Kasireddy Narayana Reddy and Kuchikulla Damodar Reddy from Mahabubnagar constituency. Patnam Mahender Reddy and Shambipur Raju from Rangareddy, Thatha Madhusudhan from Khammam and a couple of others, who filed their nominations on Monday, also filed their second set of nominations on Tuesday.

Thus, TRS retained seven candidates and gave an opportunity to five new candidates to contest as MLCs. The party leadership is confident of retaining all the 12 MLC seats considering the significant presence of TRS elected representatives in all the Local Authorities Constituencies.

With Congress contesting from two constituencies and a few independent candidates filing their nominations, the polling has become inevitable in eight of nine erstwhile districts. The erstwhile Ranga Reddy district is the only place where no other aspirant has filed nominations. The nominations will be scrutinised on Wednesday. The polling will be held on December 10, followed by counting of votes and announcement of results on December 14.
