Karimnagar: Invalid votes polled in MLC elections have become a cause for concern for contestant candidates.

About 20 per cent of votes are being found invalid in ballot boxes opened as part of the counting of votes on Monday. Polling staff are preparing bundles along with 25 ballot papers.

When the staff opened the ballot boxes, about 20 percent of votes were found invalid in each box. Except for writing numbers on priority basis, no other writing would not be allowed on ballot papers. Such votes would be considered as invalid.

While some candidates circled numbers, some others had put a tick mark beside the number.

With 20 percent of votes likely to be invalid, it has become a cause for concern for contesting candidates.
