MMC collects one tonne of sacred waste material under Project Udvasana

The Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation organised Project ‘Udvasana’ to collect and respectfully dispose of sacred waste such as old idols and religious items. Over one tonne of material was gathered from temples across Uppal, Malkajgiri, and LB Nagar zones.

Hyderabad: Over one tonne of sacred waste material was collected during project ‘Udvasana’ at various temples in Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC) limits, held on Saturday.

The initiative aimed to promote environmental conservation while respecting spiritual beliefs by ensuring the respectful disposal of old or unused idols, pictures, frames and other sacred items collected from the public, the press release said.

As part of the implementation of ‘Project Udvasana’, specific temples were selected as collection centres across the Uppal, Malkajgiri and LB Nagar zones within the MMC limits. The programme was conducted this week at the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple (Uppal Zone), the Mudugullu Temple in Neredmet (Malkajgiri Zone/Moula-Ali Circle), and the Karmanghat Hanuman Temple (LB Nagar Zone/Saroornagar Circle).

Additional Commissioner MMC Raghu Prasad said over 100 kilograms of ‘divine waste’ were collected across the three zones during the ‘Project Udvasana’ event.
