Hyderabad: Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation Commissioner T Vinay Krishna Reddy on Monday visited four-bin source-segregation units and directed officials to modify the design with clear images and symbols to help residents identify the appropriate bin for each type of waste.
The Commissioner said clearer distinctions would reduce confusion during waste disposal and collection, particularly in shared residential areas where four bins are placed together. The bins should depict wet and dry waste and not rely solely on text or written instructions, enabling people who cannot read or write to use them correctly.
MMC plans to identify suitable locations in all circles and install four-bin units to collect four types of waste separately from households, commercial establishments, offices and other institutions.
According to a press release, the units will also serve as awareness centres for residents, sanitation workers, resident welfare associations, schools, commercial establishments and other stakeholders. The initiative will provide practical information on waste segregation and management to encourage segregation at source.
