Hyderabad: TRS legislators on Saturday accused the Modi government of showing discrimination towards farmers of Telangana and demanded the Centre to enhance the quantity of paddy for procurement from the State. They reminded that Union Minister G Kishan Reddy and other BJP State leaders have assured that the Centre would purchase entire raw rice produced in Telangana.
Speaking to mediapersons at TRS Legislative Party office here, MLA Gandra Venkataramana Reddy said farmers were in dilemma over the Centre’s doublespeak with regard to paddy procurement. As the paddy purchases have reached targets for Vaanakalam season, the Central government must enhance paddy purchases immediately and even export paddy, if needed, he demanded.
“The Modi government is resorting to cheap politics and playing with the lives of farmers in the State. The protests to be organised by TRS on December 20, would be a last warning for BJP leadership. If there is no response, we will intensify our stir and fight till the entire paddy crop is procured,” he added.
MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah said, besides staging protests, the TRS cadre will collect one crore signatures from farmers demanding the Union government to enhance paddy procurement targets for Vaanakalam season and purchase Yasangi produce as well. “Farmers staged protests in Delhi against the farm laws and forced the Prime Minister to not only repeal these laws, but also apologise. Farmers in Telangana also would take up similar agitation against the Centre, to safeguard their future,” he said.
He stated that the TRS leadership was compelled to attack on the Union government for the first time in the last seven years, as the Centre was showing discrimination towards farmers.
