Hyderabad: AICC National Spokesperson Mohan Prakash lashed at the BJP-led NDA government saying the hard times faced by people due to escalating prices of essential commodities in 2021, would continue in the New Year as well. “Like during the last seven years, this year also the gift given to the people by Prime Minister Narendra Modi government is – price rise and inflation,” he said at a press conference here on Saturday.

Be prepared to spend more on basic items of daily use like clothes and footwear, fast moving consumer goods and even withdrawing money from ATMs is going to be expensive, he said. Apart from these products, prices of steel and cement were also expected to increase further this year, casting an impact on both the construction industry and general public, said Mohan Prakash, who was accompanied by TPCC president A Revanth Reddy in the conference.

In 2021, cement prices increased by 15 per cent to 20 per cent. A 50 kg cement bag, which was sold for about Rs 330 is likely to cross Rs 400 mark, he said. Similarly, in November 2021 alone, steel companies raised steel prices by Rs 3000 to Rs 3500 per tonne. This trend is going to continue in 2022, he charged adding there was no competition in the steel industry, thereby resulting in impetus to unscrupulous monopolies.
