Mohanlal’s L2: Empuraan breaks records with historic advance bookings

Hyderabad: Mohanlal’s L2: Empuraan has set a new benchmark even before its release. The film, one of the most anticipated in Malayalam cinema, is off to a record-breaking start in overseas advance bookings.

On March 21, as bookings opened, a strong response was expected. However, the film surpassed all predictions, creating history on BookMyShow. It recorded the highest hourly pre-sales in Indian cinema, selling 96.14K tickets in an hour. This achievement broke the previous record held by Leo (82K tickets per hour).

A sequel to the 2019 blockbuster Lucifer, the film is the second installment in the Lucifer trilogy. Mohanlal will reprise his role as Khureshi-Ab’raam, also known as Stephen Nedumpally. The star-studded cast includes Mohanlal, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Fazil, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Kishore Kumar G, Sachin Khedekar, Abhimanyu Singh and Hollywood Actors Jerome Flynn (Game of Thrones), making his Indian cinema debut.

Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, L2: Empuraan is produced by Lyca Productions, Aashirvad Cinemas, and Sree Gokulam Movies. Along with Malayalam release this pan-Indian film is set to release in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Kannada. Dil Raju’s SVC Cinemas will handle distribution in the Telugu states.
