Moinabad: Farmers in Enikepalli village under Moinabad municipality are maintaining round-the-clock vigil on their agricultural lands, fearing that the government may hand them over for the construction of a cattle shelter.
The apprehensions were triggered after Chevella MLA K Yadaiah performed Bhoomi Puja for setting up a cattle shelter on 99.24 acres in Survey No. 180 of Enikepalli village. Construction material for erecting compound walls has already been dumped at the site, intensifying the farmers’ concerns.
The farmers, who have been cultivating these lands for over seven decades, fear that the government may forcibly acquire them with police support. Tensions flared earlier when revenue officials clashed with the farmers during the Bhoomi Puja ceremony.
The farmers said they are not willing to accept the meagre compensation being offered and are camping in the open to resist any attempt at forcible eviction.
