Hyderabad: Forest Minister A Indrakaran Reddy said efforts would be made to set up monkey rescue and rehab centres in all the districts across the State. It may be recalled that the first rescue and rehabilitation centre for monkeys in the State was inaugurated at Gandi Ramanna Haritavanam near Chincholi village in Nirmal district.
The rehab centres, apart from extending treatment to monkeys, will aid in controlling their population. Gram Panchayats were being paid about Rs 500 for getting one monkey to the rehab centre, he said during a short discussion on Haritha Haram in the Legislative Council here on Monday.
