The drive was taken up in five GHMC zones except Serilingampally
Hyderabad: As part of its ongoing monsoon action plan, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Saturday demolished 28 dilapidated structures in the city. The civic body officials also vacated four families, who were living in structurally unfit buildings, sealed an old house and made sure one house was repaired to withstand rains. The drive was taken up in five GHMC zones except Serilingampally.
The civic body had identified 563 buildings that are structurally unfit and initiated measures to avoid loss of life and property. This year, action pertaining to 138 structures has been taken. According to a press release, structurally unfit buildings were either demolished or repaired by the owners or vacated.
Officials have been put on alert on messages received from IMD and to act immediately on citizen complaints. “We have prepared a list of all dilapidated structures in each circle which includes newly identified structures following which the special demolition drive was taken up,” a GHMC official said, adding that in case of the most dangerous structures, officials were asked to take precautionary measures.
Evacuation of inmates, sealing of buildings, barricading around the structure and displaying notices cautioning the public not to move around the structure are some of the measures.
