Hyderabad: Principal race officer Chaturvedi squeezed in one race with great difficulty during the morning session, and the international jury was kept busy with a sudden surge of protests, leading to the unfortunate disqualification of Tangai and Divakar — the leaders in the under-19 29er fleet in the Monsoon Regatta at Hussain Sagar Lake here on Thursday.
In the mixed doubles event, Thanuja and Shravan continued to maintain their winning spree, and Alia Sabreen got another win in the singular race of the day.
Sharanya Yadav in the under-18 Laser too won his race and seems to be in a formidable gold-winning position.
The afternoon session was abandoned due to wind being less than 5 knots.
The less spoken about Green Fleet — a category for relatively inexperienced sailors — saw two young sailors from Haryana, adopted by the Telangana Sailing Association, top the charts. They are certain of a podium finish, with Aayu Kumar and Sakshi Chhounnker heading for gold in the boys and girls fleet respectively.
“This is our first major performance, and we are lucky that our sailors have been adopted by Telangana. We look forward to returning to Haryana with the gold medals and trophies,” said Lokesh Yadav, their escort and mentor.
