Hyderabad: Rizwan Mohammad of Telangana won the sub-junior boys gold and the boys trophy without a discard — a double win — and stayed on top of the Indian ranking in the 16th Monsoon Regatta at Hussain Sagar Lake here on Saturday.

Rizwan was followed closely by K Krishna of Tamil Nadu, who sailed neck-to-neck with Rizwan across the championship, but the more experienced Hyderabadi got away with the gold.
Local lad Vinod Dandu clinched the bronze for boys.

In the under-19 420 mixed double-hander, Thanuja Kameshwar and Shravan Kathrawath of Telangana clinched gold after a few moments of tension on the water when they clashed into Deekshita and Ganesh, also of Telangana, who comfortably got the silver, followed by Samriddhi Batham and Parth Singh from MP, who got the bronze.

In the under-15 category, Shreya Krishna of Tamil Nadu was a point ahead of local sailor Lahiri Komaravelly before the races began, but finished an abysmal 16th in the 9th race, which Lahiri won by a handsome margin. This closed Lahiri’s grip on the SH Babu Memorial Trophy, given to the most consistent performer and calculated without discards.

In the under-19 Skiff class, Karthik Korrola and Hriday Joshi won the gold, edging out Diwaker and Tangai to silver, and Ajay Gajji and Satyam Jha to bronze.

The under-18 Laser class saw Alia Sabreen of Tamil Nadu reign supreme with gold, followed by Aashta Pandey and Mahi Verma, both from Madhya Pradesh, who took silver and bronze respectively.

In the Laser boys category, Sharanya Yadav won the gold with ease, followed by Ramakant, also of NYSC Goa, who took silver, and Vasu Chandravamshi of MP, who got the bronze.
