Hyderabad: Tension prevailed at Alankar Theatre in the Langer House locality on Monday after the management abruptly cancelled the morning screening of the latest Chiranjeevi film Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu, triggering heated arguments with moviegoers.
Patrons said they had booked tickets for the 7.30 am show through the BookMyShow app but were informed of the cancellation only after reaching the theatre. They alleged that no prior cancellation message or alert was sent through the booking platform.
As tempers flared, police intervened to prevent the situation from escalating into a physical confrontation. The theatre management later coordinated with BookMyShow representatives to ensure that cancellation messages were sent to the affected customers.
The protest subsided after the management assured the ticket holders that they would be accommodated for the 11 am show. Following the assurance, the moviegoers dispersed peacefully from the theatre premises, accordingd to Ganesh Taduri, who booked a ticket to watch the Mega Star Chiranjeevi starrer.
Sources said the morning show was cancelled due to poor ticket sales, with only about 30 to 40 tickets booked. The low turnout was attributed to the Sankranti festival holidays, during which many residents travel to their native places.
