Hyderabad:

L2: Empuraan is a gripping sequel to Lucifer, taking the story beyond Kerala’s borders and deep into national politics and global mafia networks. With Mohanlal reprising his role as the enigmatic Stephen Nedumpally, aka Khureshi Ab’raam, this film delivers on all fronts—action, drama, and suspense.

A Power-Packed First Half
The film opens with a brutal mass murder in 2002, immediately setting a dark and intense tone. As the story shifts to the present, Jathin Ramadas (Tovino Thomas), now the Chief Minister of Kerala, resigns from his party, IUF. But why does he quit? Who is Bajarangi, and what role does he play in this political game? The tension builds as we question whether Jathin is a hero or a manipulator.

Meanwhile, Stephen Nedumpally’s alter ego, Khureshi Ab’raam, is revealed as a global powerhouse with deep ties to the underworld. However, a calculated attack by a powerful rival leads to a gripping interval block. Mohanlal’s screen presence in this portion is nothing short of electrifying.

A Stronger and More Intense Second Half
While the first half builds up international intrigue, the second half shifts focus back to Kerala. The battle for IUF’s leadership intensifies—will Stephen return to save “God’s Own Country”?

Zayed Masood (Prithviraj Sukumaran) faces personal struggles and a long-buried past. Will he take revenge on Balraj? Who is Balraj? What is his connection to Masood’s past? How will Stephen help Zayed settle his score with Balraj? And will Jathin reclaim his father’s legacy? These questions drive the film’s gripping second half.

The second half is even more intense than the first, blending political drama with high-stakes action. Every twist adds depth to the narrative, making it impossible to look away.

A Well-Crafted Sequel
Prithviraj Sukumaran’s direction is remarkable, maintaining a fine balance between fan service and a compelling storyline. Unlike Lucifer, which was deeply rooted in Kerala’s politics, L2: Empuraan expands its scale, making it accessible to a pan-Indian audience. Every frame is meticulously planned, showcasing Prithviraj’s exceptional storytelling skills.

Technical Brilliance
Deepak Dev’s music and background score enhance every scene, creating a pulsating atmosphere. Sujith Vaassudev’s cinematography deserves special mention—every shot is visually striking, elevating the film’s grandeur.
