Siddipet: Medak MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy has assured the farmers that they will make available paddy seeds at all the seed shops across Siddipet district.
Addressing the general body meeting of Thoguta Mandal Parishad in Dubbak constituency on Saturday, the Medak MP said that Telangana government was not going to completely ban paddy cultivation in the State during Yasangi. Since some fields located downstream of tanks will be useful only for paddy cultivation, Reddy said that the government will permit them to take up paddy cultivation even during the Yasangi crop.
Saying that Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy is also seriously looking into the issue to release fresh guidelines, the Medak MP said that the Minister is taking the opinions of all the stakeholders.
Since the area under cultivation of paddy has increased manifold post Telangana formation as government built several water bodies, he said that the paddy procurement during both the crops has become difficult affair for the government.
Reddy further said the Central government had failed to come to their rescue and the Food Corporation of India has also refused to purchase paddy during Yasangi. In the wake of all these developments, the Medak MP said Telangana government has initiated steps to encourage the farmers to take up the cultivation of alternative crops, which were in great demand in the market.
Reddy has inaugurated multiple paddy procurement centres across Dubbak Constituency, spread in Siddipet and Medak districts on Saturday.
