Kothagudem: Telangana Munnuru Kapu Patels Welfare Association president Kampelli Kanakesh Patel has demanded the State government to carry out a resurvey of BC castes.

He complained that Munnur Kapus suffered severe injustice in the caste survey even as the community was the largest among the BCs in Telangana State. The comprehensive family survey conducted in 2014 by the BRS government found that the population of Munnuru Kapus in the State was 28 lakh.

Now, in the caste census conducted by the Congress government in 2024 Munnuru Kapus population was shown to be 13 lakh. It was surprising to see that nearly 15 lakh Munnur Kapu population disappeared instead of increasing in these ten years as per the recent survey.

Kanakesh Patel submitted a petition to the additional District Collector Venugopal here on Monday. The officials who conducted the caste survey acted negligently and deliberately underestimated the population of Munnuru Kapus.

The BC population in Telangana State was 51 per cent in 2014 and was now only 46 per cent. Going by the statistics it was evident that the caste survey was false. As promised by the Congress party, BCs should be given 42 per cent reservations in local body elections before conducting the elections, he demanded.

The association leaders Ch Nagaraju, S Ramakrishna, Thota Malleswara Rao, M Veera Mohan Rao, Balineni Nageswara Rao, Visamsetti Vishweswara Rao, Gandham Narasimha Rao and others were present.
