Musi Rejuvenation project gets cabinet nod

The Telangana cabinet has approved tenders for the Rs 7,345 crore Musi Rejuvenation project’s first phase, covering 21 km from Himayath Sagar to Bapu Ghat. Alongside, 147 posts have been sanctioned for execution and monitoring, with additional staff to be deputed if required.

Hyderabad: Despite opposition from different quarters, the State cabinet has approved the proposals to float tenders for the Musi Rejuvenation project’s first phase covering 21 km with a cost of Rs. 7,345 crore. 

In the first phase, works would be executed from Himayath Sagar to River Esa and Osman Sagar to River Musa confluence point to Bapu Ghat. To execute works and monitor them, creation of 147 posts has been approved by the cabinet and if required, more staff would be deployed on deputation.


Briefing media persons at the cabinet meeting, , Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said the State government accepted the VB-GRAMG scheme. However, it had also decided to approach the Supreme Court, considering the impact of implementing the scheme as per the prescribed terms and conditions, he said.

The Minister said along with students up to 12th standard, nearly 1.5 lakh teachers, lecturers and staff, would be extended free mid-day meals, milk and snacks.

The cabinet also approved 6,278 posts in different TIMS, including Sanathnagar, LB Nagar and Alwal and super specialty hospital, Warangal. This apart, CMRF LOCs would also be processed at these hospitals, he said.

The cabinet approved allotment of lands for constructing warehouses in five to six assembly constituencies. Accordingly, 50 acres has been approved at Bollikunta in Warangal and 10 acres at Kakarlapahad in Rangareddy to the State Warehousing Corporation. Similarly, 20 acres has been allotted for establishment of Jawahar Navodaya at Peddaipally in Mahabubnagar and 19 acres at Kodad in Suryapet districts. Also, the cabinet approved allotment of five acres for setting up Kendriya Vidyalaya at Chalgal in Jagityal, he said.
