Musi River rejuvenation: MRDCL seeks 3D modelling even before DPR is ready
Even before the DPR for the River Musi Rejuvenation project is ready, MRDCL has initiated 3D modelling of structures along the river banks. Officials said such exercises are usually carried out only after the DPR is finalised.

Hyderabad: Even before the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the much-hyped River Musi Rejuvenation project is ready, the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (MRDCL) has begun roping in agencies for 3D modelling of structures on either side of the river banks.
As part of the exercise, MRDCL intends to map 3D images or models of existing structures on both sides of the river. The images or models will be prepared covering one kilometre from the centre of the river. Initially, the exercise will cover stretches from Osman Sagar to Bapu Ghat and from Himayat Sagar to Bapu Ghat, spanning about 21 km. The entire exercise is expected to be completed within three months.
Generally, before taking up road widening or other infrastructure projects, officials conduct surveys of structures likely to be affected by demolition. Based on such surveys, structures are identified and subsequent plans, including compensation and road width, are finalised, a senior MRDCL official said.
“In this context, the purpose of conducting 3D modelling of structures is not clear as the DPR is yet to be submitted,” the official said.
Usually, such exercises are taken up only after the DPR is finalised and submitted to the corporation or the government. However, MRDCL is yet to receive the DPR for a portion of the River Musi stretch covering 55 km, the official added.
In the past, MRDCL officials had stated that the DPR would be ready by January.
A consortium involving Meinhardt, RIOS, Cushman and Wakefield, ZHA and SOM is currently conducting various surveys to prepare the DPR. After the consortium prepares the DPR for a portion of the river stretch, MRDCL will submit it to the government.
