Hyderabad: YouTube is all shaken up with Thaman’s music, literally! Recently, the resounding hit of ‘Bheemla Nayak’ made the musician the talk of the town, and now ‘Akhanda’ is another movie which is garnering him a lot of praise. And next Thaman has Varun Tej-starrer ‘Ghani’ in store and later Mahesh Babu-starrer ‘Sarkaru Vaari Paata’.
Thaman feels that ‘Akhanda’ has a remarkable story-telling under the direction of Boyapati Srinu. “The combination of Nandamuri Balakrishna and Boyapati Srinu is evergreen. Even the next 100 films in their combo would make fans go frenzy, that’s the energy that both have in terms of visual story-telling,” he says.
Since there are fewer songs, Thaman had to put in extra effort to bring out the best. To get into the mood and catch the wavelength of Boyapati Srinu was an altogether different ball game, the ace music director says. “Boyapati is like a race horse, he is as fast as he thinks. He makes the team run like horses,” says Thaman, adding that the director didn’t compromise on the music as the story has devotional and spiritual tints.
“We had to do quite a bit of research on Aghoras’ lifestyle. We had to read books in libraries and understand their culture to the core. There’s a lot of scientific understanding that went into it,” he adds.
The reason why the music gets trending on the internet is because of the effort that went into it. “Soon after I sent the single to Balakrishna garu, he felt it was good. Since commercial cinema has lesser shelf life, we had to latch on to every new thing that is expected to trend in the market. ‘Akhanda’ is different from the regular commercial potboilers. It is very scientific; it falls in a very different zone,” he says, adding that music has the capacity to define an actor’s image.
‘Akhanda’ boasts a music crew of 120 singers and 500 team of musicians. “To bring the organic theme to the music, we had to experiment with various musical instruments. As part of our experimentation, we had to delve deep into the culture of Aghoras,” he adds.
