Muslim man wins laddu for Rs 4.45 lakh at Bhimra in Sangareddy district

A Muslim man from Sangareddy's Bhimra village won the Ganesh laddu auction for Rs 4.45 lakh, nearly four times his previous bid. He said participating in such auctions and religious and social activities had brought him good fortune

Sangareddy: As winning the Ganesh laddu had brought him good fortune multiple times, a Muslim man from Bhimra village in Kagti mandal bought the Ganesh laddu for Rs 4.45 lakh in an intensely fought auction at the pandal in the village.

Sheik Mohin (41), who bought the laddu for Rs 1,11,111 last year, had also entered the competition this year, which was held on Friday night. Though many people competed this year, he again made the highest bid, spending three times more than he had spent last year, and won the auction.

Speaking to ‘Telangana Today’, Mohin said he had made his parents buy the laddu for three consecutive years, in 1997, 1998 and 1999, when he was in school. Since they had moved to Karnataka for a few years in search of a livelihood, they could not participate in the auction.

Mohin, who is into the paints and electrical trade, also said he witnessed growth in his business after winning the laddus in the auctions.

Not only does Mohin participate in the auctions, but he also performs ‘Annadanam’ at various Ganesh pandals and makes donations towards various rituals. He also makes liberal donations to madrasas and mosques in his area, as he believes that social and religious activities bring him good fortune.

Another Muslim man also bagged the laddu in an auction at Abbenda village in Narayankhed mandal. Md Rahim competed with locals and won the laddu for Rs 45,000. People said the auction was a reflection of brotherhood between the two religions.
