Nagarkurnool: Tension prevailed at the Government General Hospital here on Sunday after hospital authorities discharged a few students, who fell sick after consuming stale curd at Jyothibha Phule Girls Residential School at Uyyalawada last night. The discharge was done in haste allegedly after learning that former Minister T Harish Rao was about to visit the hospital.

Parents alleged that their children were being discharged from the hospital abruptly. When the parents questioned the hospital staff, they claimed that the students’ condition was stable, according to reports.
About 79 students fell sick at the school after having their dinner on Saturday. Of these, 12 were discharged today and the rest were still undergoing treatment at the hospital. It is also learnt that another 50 students also complained of stomach ache and vomiting and were admitted in the hospital this morning.
Parents turned up in large numbers at the hospital and complained that the school staff had not responded immediately to the students’ condition. As a result, many more were falling sick, they said.
