Nagarkurnool: Tension prevailed at Ananthavaram village on Thursday after farmers strongly opposed a land acquisition survey for the Umamaheswara irrigation project.
Raising slogans against the government, the farmers categorically stated they would not part with their lands under any circumstances.
Accompanied by local police, revenue and irrigation officials arrived at the village outskirts to begin the survey. However, farmers obstructed them from entering their fields and demanded that the survey be initiated from the project site instead.
They also urged officials to suspend the survey exercise immediately, citing the ongoing tilling and seed-sowing season.
Farmers from Ananthavaram and neighbouring villages under Balmoor mandal have been opposing land acquisition for the project for several months now.
