Nagarkurnool: The indefinite strike by employees working in various cadres under the National Health Mission (NHM) in Nagarkurnool entered its seventh day on Monday, with protesters wearing nooses around their necks to highlight their distress over the government’s failure to address their demands.
The demonstration was organised under the aegis of the NHM Joint Action Committee (JAC). The employees warned that if the government failed to come to their aid, they would be left with no option but to resort to extreme measures.
The protesters expressed anguish over their continued employment under contract and outsourcing arrangements despite providing medical services to the public for several years. They alleged that their grievances remained unresolved despite their long service in the health sector.
They appealed to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha to intervene immediately and take concrete steps to resolve their issues.
Their key demands include regularisation of contract employees, implementation of the principle of equal pay for equal work, and extension of the Employees’ Health Scheme (EHS) benefits to NHM staff. They also sought annual increments, loyalty bonuses and 180 days of maternity leave.
JAC leaders urged the government to recognise the contribution of NHM employees to public health and provide them with job security.
The employees made it clear that they would continue their agitation until the government addressed their demands.
