Nalgonda: A special team of Nalgonda police reportedly opened fire in the air at Lambasingi of Visakhapatnam district in Andhra Pradesh when a group of people attacked their vehicle while shifting arrested ganja gang members to Nalgonda.

According to police sources, some persons stopped a tipper vehicle on the ghat road to stop the vehicles in which Nalgonda police were bringing the arrested gang members involved in ganja racket to Nalgonda, with the intention of facilitating their escape from police custody. When some policemen got down from the vehicle to clear the tipper vehicle from the road, a group of persons attacked the police vehicles with stones.

Following the attack, the police team headed by an SP rank officer opened fire in the air. Due to the firm response of the police, the group members escaped from the place.

After the arrest of ganja racket kingpin, Nalgonda police took up a special operation to put an end to illegal ganja business. About 17 special police teams were formed by Superintendent of Police AV Ranganath. A special team headed by an SP rank officer conducted raids at Dharamkonda, Annavaram, Gangavaram, Lambasingi, Peeleru and Donkari in AP, and arrested several persons linked to the racket. The incident took place when the police were shifting the arrested gang members to Nalgonda in a vehicle.

The special police teams also took up operations at different places in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, including Dhoolpet in Hyderabad.
