Nalgonda: The Nalgonda Medical College has been put under close observation as a second incident of ragging came to light in less than a week.
Four first-year MBBS students had allegedly faced harassment from six seniors last week during a so-called orientation session. It was reportedly marked by physical and verbal threats. As no official complaints were lodged, the management could not initiate action.
Within less than a week, five juniors faced abuse from a similar senior group. This time also the victims did not dare to lodge a formal complaint. But as the information reached the management, the higher authorities have reportedly called for video footage of the campus happenings.
Nalgonda Superintendent of Police Sharat Chandra Pawar has addressed both the students and staff sounding a warning against repetition of such incidents.
“No mercy would be shown for those hurting the students in the pretext of ragging. Tough steps are coming,” he said, calling students to give up once and for all the ragging habit.
Citing the Prohibition of Ragging Act, he said the perpetrators could be punished with imprisonment from six months to three years for each case.
