Nalgonda: Desperation to save his standing paddy crop and power cuts, cost a farmer his life after he was bitten by a snake while water his fields at Munugode. Though, he drove a bike to Primary Health Care Centre but breathed his last while being shifted to hospital in Nalgonda.

Thiripari Satyam (41), a farmer from Yellalagudem village in Munugode Mandal, went to his paddy field on Sunday afternoon. As power cuts continued like other days, he anxiously walked to the fields to check water supply.

In his desperate attempt to save the crop, Satyam was unexpectedly bitten by a snake lurking on the bund.

Realizing his life was slipping away, he managed to call his family to inform them of the situation and rode his two-wheeler to the Munugode Primary Health Centre. After receiving initial first aid, he was being transported to Nalgonda Hospital in a ‘108’ ambulance for advanced medical care but passed away en route, reports said.

Satyam is survived by his wife and two sons.

Erratic power supply has forced farmers into a dire situation where they must guard their fields even at nights, often risking their lives. Locals are expressing deep outrage, asserting that had power been supplied at regular, scheduled times, Satyam would not have needed to roam the fields.

They hold the government’s incompetence responsible for his death. They are demanding immediate, substantial compensation for the deceased’s family and the provision of quality electricity for agriculture, reports added.
