Nalgonda: In a shocking incident, a farmer, who could not bear the death of his son in a road accident, died of cardiac arrest in Nalgonda district on Sunday night.

Gorla Indra Reddy (52), a native of Thadakamalla village and residing in Chowdari Colony in Miryalaguda, died while he was being shifted to hospital after he collapsed on hearing the news of the death of his son Bharath Reddy (30) in a hit-and-run accident at Shettipalem in Miryalaguda mandal.

Bharath Reddy was returning to Miryalaguda from his agriculture field at Bommakal of Vemulapally mandal, when an unidentified vehicle coming from the opposite direction hit his motorcycle at around 10 pm on Sunday.

On hearing the news of his son’s death, Indra Reddy, a local CPI (M) leader, collapsed at his residence. He died while he was being shifted to a private hospital by his relatives. Both father and son died within the hour. Indra Reddy maintained good relations with the people of his native place and was a popular figure. He was running a fertilizer shop at Miryalaguda and would come to the help of farmers in troubled times. A pall of gloom descended on the village following the death of father and son.

Bharath Reddy’s mother Sujatha was also admitted to a private hospital in Miryalaguda by her relatives after she fell sick on hearing the news of her son’s accident. According to close associates of the family, Sujatha’s blood pressure dropped and she has not yet been informed of her son’s death on account of her condition.

Police shifted the bodies of father and son to the area hospital in Miryalaguda for autopsy. The relatives made arrangements for the funeral rites at Thadakamalla.
