Nalgonda: The district court on Friday convicted and sentenced a 35-year-old man to 21 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl, rendering her seven months pregnant. The accused, Chintapalli Nagesh exploited a teenage victim, whose family owed money to his father and threatened to kill her in a bid to silence her.

He repeatedly assaulted her, leading to her pregnancy, and warned her of dire consequences if she revealed the abuse to anyone. The incident came to light in 2021, prompting the Nalgonda One Town Police Station to register a case by invoking Sections 376(2)(n) and 506 of the Indian Penal Code, along with Section 5(j)(ii)(1)(n) read with Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.

An additional one-year jail term and Rs 5,000 fine were imposed under Section 506 IPC for criminal intimidation. The sentences will run consecutively, totaling 21 years behind bars and a Rs 30,000 fine. The court directed the State Legal Aid Authority to provide Rs 10 lakh in compensation to the survivor.

Meanwhile, in Hyderabad, a minor girl was raped by a youth in Shamshabad.
