Nalgonda: In a bid to implement the lockdown strictly in Nalgonda town, the police did not spare the owners and workers of medical shops as well as medical agencies which have been exempted from the lockdown in the State. Protesting against the highhandedness of the police personnel, the medical shops were shutdown in Nalgonda town after 10 am on Saturday.
The incidents of the police beating up the pharmacists, pharma sales executives, lab technicians and other workers of medical agencies, were reported in Nalgonda town on Saturday morning. Though they had valid passes to attend the duties, the police had reportedly beaten up them for moving on the roads after 10 am. In a mark of protest, Prakasham Bazaar which is the hub of medical shops and medical agencies, was completely shutdown after 10 am causing much trouble for people seeking medicines during the Covid crisis.
An owner of a medical shop, on the condition of anonymity, said that the police were not even waiting for their staff to show identity cards and using lathis against them. There was no major attempts to end the impasse either by the police or the medical shop owners, creating a shortage of medicines.
Meanwhile, the police implemented the lockdown strictly by ensuring that no one came on to the roads after 10 am on Saturday. They forced all the shops to down the shuters after 9.45 am to ensure that the shop owners reach their homes before 10 am. They erected barricades at the Clock Tower Centre, Shivaji Nagar, Savarkar Nagar, Old City, Prakasham Bazaar and Devarakonda road among others.
The police acted tough against the vehicularists who came on to the roads during the lockdown period and had even beaten up those on emergency duty at several locations across the town. They used drone cameras to crack down on the violators of lockdown and filed cases against them.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Venkateshwar Reddy said that the police kept an eagle eye on not only the main roads but also roads and bylanes in the colonies and other areas. “Upon examining the drone camera footage, we will identify the violators and file cases against them. All the vehicles which come on to the roads after 10 am, will be seized,” he warned. He also suggested the people to postpone the functions including marriages in view of the prevailing situation.
