Nalgonda: Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration Dr N Satyanarayana on Thursday instructed the district officials to take up multi-level avenue plantation besides the main roads in municipalities as part of Pattana Pragathi and Telangana Ku Haritha Haram(TKHH) programmes.

Speaking at a review meeting with commissioners of municipalities in the district here, Dr Satyanarayana inquired with the municipal commissioners about the status of developmental works in their respective towns. He got the details from the municipal commissioners about the implementation of TKHH, spending of green budget and payment of salaries to the staff. “Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao will soon conduct a surprise visit to the district and inspect avenue plantations and survival of saplings planted under TKHH,” he said, and directed the officials to plant saplings that are quick flowering that would help in beautification of the towns.

Directing the municipal commissioners to prepare estimates for the purpose and start work within a week, he said new saplings would be planted in place of saplings that were planted earlier and had not survived. Fencing should be set up around nurseries developed in the town and suggestions of the officials, who visit them, should be recorded in a special book, he said.

He has also underlined the need for desilting of open drainage canals in the towns in view of monsoon season. “This will prevent overflowing drainage canals. Special focus should be on door to door waste collection daily. Municipal commissioners should inspect public toilets in the towns and inspect the cleanliness,” he said, adding that officials should also identify three acres of land for setting up Vaikunta Dhamams (graveyards) in the towns. Towns with more than one lakh population should have at least four Vaikunta Dhamams, he said.

Regional Director of Municipal Administration Srinivas Reddy, district Collector Prashant Jeevan Patil, Additional district Collector (local bodies) Rahul Sharma and commissioners of different municipalities in the district also attended the review meeting.
