Hyderabad: Just a year ago, the connection she forged with Telugu audiences on OTT — playing the role of a cancer patient Supriya in Metro Kathalu had a lasting impact. Nandini Rai is, yet again, coming before Telugu film lovers with a web series In The Name of God. An aha original, the series is being directed by Vidyasagar while Suresh Krissna who had directed various blockbuster hits like Rajinikanth’s Basha and Chiranjeevi’s Master, two decades ago, is backrolling the project.
“Happy to be in the reckoning again. Thankful to the Telugu industry for the offers that are trickling down. I like to play more intense roles than the girl-next-door ones. It was very difficult for me to portray the pain of a cancer patient through Supriya. I’m happy that I could make an impression through my performance,” says Nandini.
The city-born actor says, “Kickboxing is like a hobby, I practise it every other day. During the last lockdown, I had practised every morning and evening. It’s one thing that improves the way you look, besides improving one’s stamina, strength and immunity. Considering the overall health, kickboxing is good. Everybody should take up the combat sport. You know you could burn out a lot of calories. You can be fit and improve your stamina,” the Shootout at Alair star adds.
If she was not an actor, she probably would have ended up being a chef or an IT employee pushing desk work. “I like cooking very much. Or, maybe I would have to fetch a job in some IT company as I’ve an MBA degree from London. That would’ve been a boring life again. My childhood dream was to become an actor, because I happened to meet the late actor Soundarya, when I was a school girl, and I was awestruck by her beauty and grace. So humble as a human being… on seeing her, I subconsciously made up my mind that someday I shall become an actor,” she smiles.
The upcoming web series In The Name of God features Priyadarshi. The first-look poster of the actor lighting a cigarette with a bruised face was released formally by the makers. The crime thriller comes in seven interesting episodes with the runtime of 45 minutes each.
