Brightly painted and aesthetically designed public toilets placed in strategic locations greet visitors to Narayanpet town.
Hyderabad: The efforts put in by the Narayanpet district administration to improve sanitation levels have begun paying rich dividends, with the municipality bagging Open Defecation Free-Plus certification recently. A third party inspection was conducted on November 27 and 28 last when officials visited 14 different places, including slum, residential, commercial and public areas besides transport hubs.
Brightly painted and aesthetically designed public toilets placed in strategic locations greet visitors to the town. Of the eight public toilets set up across the municipality, two were declared ‘Best Toilets’ by the inspection team. The town has a population of over 41,000 and imposes fines on people dumping waste at will.
The team visited Agraharam road, Ashok Nagar, Saraf Bazaar, Old Gunj, Aagi road, Godugu Geri and other locations. The Narayanpet municipality, which has 24 wards, is now among the few municipalities in the State to be certified as ODF-Plus.
After the Narayanpet municipality, the district administration now expects other urban local bodies, including Kosgi and Makthal, to achieve similar certification. “Inspection teams are expected to visit the ULBs shortly, and we hope to achieve the certifications as the requisite measures are in place,” Narayanpet Collector D Harichandana told ‘Telangana Today’.
