Hyderabad: Nawab Najaf Ali Khan, the grandson of the Nizam VII, Mir Osman Ali Khan Bahadur, demanded the State government officially commemorate the birth anniversary of Nizam VII, that falls on April 6, in recognition of his service and legacy.

In a representation submitted to the Chief Minister, A Revanth Reddy, on Monday, April 6, the 140th birth anniversary of Mir Osman Ali Khan, his grandson, Nawab Najaf, said that Mir Osman Ali Khan Bahadur is remembered for his secular outlook and immense contributions to the State and the nation. His legacy continues to live on through the many institutions and reforms he established, yet his birth anniversary remains officially unrecognised.

“This absence raises concerns that future generations may gradually lose awareness of his remarkable contributions. While some political entities invoke his name for their own purposes, the lack of formal recognition on his birth anniversary reflects a certain disregard for a leader of such stature,” said Najaf Ali Khan.

He said that during the rule of Nizam VII, Hyderabad State witnessed significant advancements in healthcare, education, infrastructure, irrigation, and public welfare. He made primary education compulsory and accessible, particularly for the underprivileged. Even today, many institutions founded under his leadership continue to serve the public, he added.

It is deeply disheartening that governments have not formally commemorated his birth anniversary to honour his enduring legacy. This continued neglect affects not only his family but also those who value and remember his contributions.
