NCB busts illegal Alprazolam manufacturing gang in Telangana, seizes Rs 85 lakh

The NCB Hyderabad unit busted an illegal Alprazolam manufacturing and trafficking network, seizing 39.47 kg of the drug and Rs 85.36 lakh in cash. Three accused, including a chemist, were arrested for allegedly operating a long-running drug supply chain in Telangana.

Hyderabad: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Hyderabad unit, busted a gang illegally manufacturing and trafficking Alprazolam in bulk quantity. The NCB seized 39.470 kgs of Alprazolam and cash of Rs 85.36 lakhs from them on Saturday.

On specific information, the officials of NCB team intercepted two four-wheeler vehicles and two persons aged 48 years and 30 years near Kalakunta colony, Siddipet Outer Ring Road, Siddipet, Telangana, when they were exchanging Alprazolam illegally without any valid license.


“Search of the vehicles and persons on the spot resulted in the recovery of 39.470 kgs of Alprazolam and cash of Rs 85, 36,200 which are sale proceeds of Alprazolam. On the basis of disclosure made by one of the accused about the supplier of the Alprazolam, another person aged 49 years from Madeenaguda, Hyderabad was apprehended,” said the NCB officials.

On interrogation, it was learnt by the officials that the suspects had been doing this illegal Alprazolam business for a long period. “The supplier who supplied drug is an M.Sc post graduate in Chemistry. He is working as a chemist freelancer, and he disclosed that he manufactured the seized Alprazolam clandestinely in his laboratory at Prashantnagar area of Hyderabad,” added NCB officials.

All three persons allegedly confessed to their involvement in manufacturing and trafficking of Alprazolam illegally and were arrested under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act 1985. Preliminary investigation suggests that they transacted around 150 kgs of Alprazolam over the last five years. All three accused were produced before remanding Magistrate, Siddipet and sent to judicial custody. Further investigations in the case are going on.
