NCRB data shows 99.9 per cent of POCSO accused known to victims in Telangana

Hyderabad: National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data reveals that in 99.9 per cent of POCSO cases, the suspects were known to the victims and included family members, neighbours or friends.

Crime in India 2024 data points out that in 2024, a total of 2,103 girls were recorded as victims of sexual crimes in Telangana. Of them, 99.9 per cent of the suspects were known to the victims.


The NCRB data states that among the total 2,076 suspects identified in the POCSO cases registered in 2024, as many as 2,074 were known to the victims, while a few came in contact with the victims through online channels.

A total of 1,240 victims were aged between 16 and 18 years, while 740 were aged between 12 and 16 years. The remaining victims were aged below 12 years and were allegedly victimised by neighbours, family members or persons known to the family.
