Hyderabad: Nearly 51,000 students are set to miss the intermediate public examinations (IPE) 2026, starting February 25, as they failed to register.
As per information from the Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TS BIE), a total of 10,47,815 students enrolled in the intermediate first and second-year streams for the academic year 2025-26.
Of the total admitted, 9,96,831 students paid the examination fee as the deadline, with a late fee of Rs 2,000, concluded on December 15. A total of 50,984 have failed to register for the exams.
However, they are now queuing at the Board’s office here seeking permission to pay the fee. On Monday alone, three students turned up at the Board requesting an opportunity to pay the fee citing health issues. Students and parents urged the Board to provide a final chance to pay the examination fee under the Tatkal scheme.
Further, the Board has taken a key decision to implement a facial recognition system (FRS) for recording attendance of staff on examination work. Chief superintendents, departmental officers, invigilators, and evaluators have been asked to mark their attendance via the FRS. The Board intends to extend this system to students in the next academic year.
With wristwatches, particularly digital and smart watches, being barred from exam centres, the Board has decided to install wall clocks in all examination halls.
The IPE will be conducted from February 25 to March 18. Both first and second-year examinations will be held from 9 am to 12 noon. A total of 1,495 centres have been constituted.
Before the theory examinations, practical exams for general and vocational streams will be held from February 2 to 21. In addition, English practical exams for the first and second year are scheduled for January 21 and 22. As many as 1,924 centres, including 1,410 for general courses and 484 for vocational streams, have been set up for practical exams.
Similarly, the ethics and human values examination (for backlog students only) and environmental education examination will be held on January 23 and 24, respectively.
