New badminton body elected as Telangana eyes sports growth

Telangana minister D Sridhar Babu said the state is taking concrete steps to become a sports hub, including plans for a Sports University. The Badminton Association of Telangana also elected its new executive committee for the 2026–2030 term

Hyderabad: Minister and President of the Badminton Association of Telangana, D Sridhar Babu, said that the government has been taking concrete steps to develop Telangana into a prominent sports hub in the country.

The General Body Meeting of the Badminton Association of Telangana was held on Tuesday at the Kotak Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy in Gachibowli.


Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sridhar Babu said the government was giving special priority to the development of sports in the state.

He said that along with providing modern infrastructure for sportspersons, the government is moving forward with the establishment of a Sports University. He added that long-term plans are being prepared with the objective of creating better opportunities for young athletes.

General Secretary of the Telangana Badminton Association, P Gopichand, expressed happiness over the achievements of badminton players from the state at national and international levels.

He said that with discipline, dedication, and by taking both victory and defeat in stride, players can reach greater heights. He expressed confidence that the initiatives being taken by the government would yield better results in the future.

During the General Body Meeting, the new Executive Committee of the Badminton Association of Telangana for the term 2026–2030 was elected unanimously.

The list of office-bearers: D Sridhar Babu – President. Vice-presidents: Y Upender Rao, V Chamundeswara Nath, G Venkata Rao, P Ramesh Reddy and Srinivas Uppala.

General secretary – P Gopichand.

Treasurer – Kanuri Vamsidhar.

Joint secretaries – L Ravi Kumar, P Manoj Kumar, M Jithender Reddy, U V N Babu.

Advisor – Lakshman Kosaraju.

Executive committee – P Ram Mohan Rao, Thota Ranga Rao, K Sreenivasa Rao,

P Sudhakar and Kolli Naga Veni.
