Hyderabad: Reaching the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport is going to become a much easier affair soon. With the State government on a mission to provide hassle-free traffic movement, commuters from Jubilee Hills, the central parts of the city and parts of the IT corridor will no longer have to go via the the PV Narasimha Rao Expressway to reach the RGIA.
Seamless commuting to the airport can soon be attributed to a 7km six-lane road proposed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) from Jubilee Hills Road Number 45 to the Outer Ring Road (ORR). The road that begins at Road number 45, Jubilee Hills traverses through Lanco Hills in Manikonda and connects to the ORR near My Home Avatar in Nanakramguda, from where vehicles can head straight to the RGIA.
The road was designed keeping in view the traffic density in the coming decades. “Based on the population and Passenger Car Unit (PCU) in 2035, the road has been planned. Line departments including Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Hyderabad Road Development Corporation Ltd ( HRDCL) are working to connect other roads in the city to the proposed road,” an official from the Municipal Administration and Urban Development department said.
“To develop the 7 km road, we need to acquire only 2 km of land,” he added.
As per the proposal, after the road is developed, the commuting distance from Jubilee Hills to RGIA will be 27 km and the commuting time will be around 20 to 30 minutes. Once the facility is open to people, commuters to the airport from the IT corridor or Jubilee Hills will no longer have to go to Mehidpatnam to take the Expressway. This road will reduce the traffic density in Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Tolichowki and on the stretch connecting Mehdipatnam and IT corridor.
