Newly married man sets himself ablaze after separation from wife in Karimnagar

A youth attempted self-immolation near Karimnagar rural police station after his wife was taken away by her family due to lack of marriage proof. He sustained severe burns and was shifted to Hyderabad in critical condition.

Karimnagar: Upset over separation with his newly married wife, a youngster Varun attempted to suicide by self-immolation near Karimnagar rural police station on Tuesday night.

Police said Varun hailing from Rangareddy district fell in love with a woman from Karimnagar and had reportedly married her recently.


The couple had approached the Karimangar rural police on Tuesday and as there was no evidence of their marriage, family members of the woman took her along with them.

Reportedly upset over the development, Varun doused himself with petrol and immolated hhimself near the police station. Passersby and the policemen rushed and attempted to douse the fire. A seriously injured Varun was shifted to district headquarters hospital from where he was rushed to Hyderabad for better treatment. His condition is stated to be critical.
