Adilabad: A newly-married woman ended her life by consuming pesticide as she was unable to bear the alleged harassment of in-laws at Savargaon village in Neradigonda mandal on Friday. Her family members staged a rasta-roko on Hyderabad-Nagpur national highway, demanding action against the husband and in-laws of the woman.

Neradigonda Sub-Inspector Bharath Suman said that the deceased was Jadhav Sangeetha (21). Sangeetha resorted to the drastic step when she was unable to bear harassment of her husband, Vijay, a realtor from Savargaon village and in-laws.

It is learned that she was three months pregnant. She was reportedly subjected to torture for requesting her husband to visit a hospital for a medical checkup.

She was married to Vijay last January. Her parents offered a huge amount of dowry and household articles at the time of the marriage. The parents and her family members staged a protest accusing Vijay and her father Ambaji and mother Anasurya of harassing their daughter over petty issues and neglecting her health, resulting in her death. They withdrew the protest when policemen assured justice and action against the husband of Sangeetha and her in-laws.

Based on a complaint received from Rameshwar, father of the victim, a case was registered against Vijya, Ambaji and Anasurya. Investigations were taken up.
