Hyderabad: The next four weeks are going to be crucial for the Omicron driven Covid third wave in Telangana, as positive infections are expected to surge. As a result, it’s imperative for people of Telangana to adopt Covid precautions in their lives to avoid getting infected by the highly transmissible Omicron, State Health authorities on Thursday said.
The Omicron variant is spreading 6 times faster than the Delta variant in Telangana, which is the reason why Covid positive cases are rising exponentially in urban centres, especially in GHMC, Medchal-Malkajgiri and Rangareddy districts.
Given these circumstances, people of Telangana, instead of panicking due to the surge in positive cases, must stick to the advice of public health officials and take precautions. The moment individuals develop Covid symptoms, they must immediately get tested at the nearest government health care facility.
Since, Delta variant along with Omicron variant is active in Telangana, it is important for people with symptoms to quickly undergo Covid tests. If tested positive with mild symptoms, then instead of visiting private hospitals for admissions, they must immediately isolate and conduct similar tests to their family members.
“At present, Delta variant too exists and individuals must be careful because within 3 days, Delta positive individuals could deteriorate. However, if you have Omicron, then within 3 days, your fever will subside and by 7 days, you can come out of isolation. Follow the advice of a qualified doctor and do not self-medicate,” Director of Public Health (DPH), Dr G Srinivasa Rao on Thursday said.
Omicron symptoms:
1. Sneezing
2. Extreme fatigue
3. Painful/burning/sore/scratchy throat
4. Fever
5. Headache, body aches and night sweats
6. Backache
7. Cough
8. Stuffy and sometimes even running nose
9. Nausea or bloating
10. Persistent fatigue lasting between 2 to 5 days
11. Loss of appetite
Important advice:
1. If symptoms develop, get tested at the earliest
2. If positive, follow doctor’s advice and avoid self-medication
3. Hospitalisation not needed for mild symptoms
4. 7 days home isolation enough to recover
5. Only symptomatic treatment
6. No need for expensive medication unless specifically advised by doctor
7. Keep a close watch of symptoms
8. Mild fever will subside in 3 days and full recovery in 7 days
