Hyderabad: Ongoing inclement weather conditions are leading to a noticeable increase in outpatient visits at government and private healthcare facilities in Hyderabad. The outpatient departments at Gandhi, Osmania General Hospital and Fever Hospital, along with private nursing homes and clinics, have started reporting a steady rise in cases of viral fevers.
Seasonal disease experts emphasize the importance of taking precautions against mosquito bites and implementing vector control measures at home. The district health authorities have urged people to take personal precautions against upper respiratory tract infections, and water- and vector-borne diseases.
The Director of Public Health (DPH), Dr Ravindra Nayak, issued an advisory urging people to take precautions. “This is the season of water-borne diseases like gastroenteritis, typhoid and jaundice, as people frequently come in contact with stale food and contaminated water. Households must also strive to prevent mosquito breeding to curtail dengue and chikungunya,” he advised.
Consume treated water, avoid stale food, take measures to prevent mosquito bites—especially during the daytime, since the dengue mosquito is a daytime biter—and get rid of stagnant water in and around houses, doctors advised.
